Shutterfly Photo Book: Beginnings

I recently got a promo code from CK in one of their newsletters to get a "free" 8x8 Shutterfly photobook.

Intrigued, and pretty much unable to turn down such a cool offer, I have begun the work of selecting photos from the Europe trip to put into a nice glossy finished photo book. I am still planning on doing a big old 12x12 album and filling it with ephemera and paint and thickers and all that good stuff, but I thought it would be nice to get SOMETHING done with the bajillion photos I took on the trip (back in 2008).

This is (I think) what the final cover is going to look like.

As you can see, it is pretty heavily influenced by Ali Edwards. I'm going to be making my own clipping templates in photoshop, but I'm thinking it's going to be pretty clean-lined and gridded. This project is probably my biggest inspiration.

The coupon expires at the end of the month, so I'm really pushing myself to get it together and get it made.
I'll share more as I get it done.

If anyone else has made a photobook or done a similar project, I'd love to see it and/or hear some of your best tips on how to work with Shutterfly, etc.

Hope your week is going well. :)

I've heard about Shutterfly but I've never really looked into it. Do you create an online photo album and then they print it for you? I can't wait to see how it turns out!
