proof of craft

photo taken with iTouch.

Here's a quick shot of my crafting afternoon on Sunday. Proof I still play with paper...despite the lack of proof on the blog recently.

I'm working on it. Really....

gotta go. ;)

A story in black & white

photos taken with the Hipstamatic app on my iTouch.

The scene: Saturday morning at Alki
The players: A bench. A beach. A seagull duel. Some breakfast. Me & Greg.

Doesn't the black and white just make everything look so... dramatic?

Dum dum dum.....

(It was a pretty drama free morning actually, but doesn't that vignetting just make everything look just so serious and moody?)

Good times.

first roll from the Golden Half

So... The Golden Half camera is a half-frame 35mm film camera that takes two exposures for every one frame of film. If you play your cards right, at the end of the roll you basically get a bunch of random diptychs.

Cool right? Well, Costco failed to follow my instructions when I got this roll of film developed and processed them all individually. Besides being super expensive to process, it is also slightly annoying as I'll probably re-diptych them all later, In the meantime, here are a few shots, hot off the CD for your viewing pleasure.

I can't even remember when some of these photos were taken. Sadly, I do know that it took me over a year to finish this one roll of film. Getting these developed was a bit like opening a time capsule.

I love this hobby.

And getting this particular roll all finished off and developed helps me to accomplish my goal of using a roll of film in each of my (functioning) cameras this year. I just have to finish off some stuff in my Oktomat and that waterproof camera I just got, and then figure out where to get 110 film developed..as I picked up a tiny fisheye spycam at the thriftstore early last spring.

The other roll I got done today was a roll of color film for my Holga 135BC. There are some adorably woodsy photos in there that I'm excited to share with you later this week.

Bakery Adventure + Hipstamatic App

Even getting coffee on the weekend is more exciting with my i-touch camera and some funky camera apps. It's like all the fun of analog film but with the instant gratification of digital.

Speaking of, I do have like three rolls of film I need to get developed....I need to go drop those off.

Hope you get to see some pretty sights to photograph today. :)

Olympic Peninsula Weekend

A few weekends ago Greg and I took a little trip out to the Olympic Peninsula.

We hit the road, stopping for tea and crumpets at Pike Place Market to fortify ourselves.

A ferry ride, a bit of highway and a very rainy stretch of road later we arrived at the Hoh Rainforest (yes, this is where the ipod was killed). We took a lovely rainy hike (about two miles) and then at twilight, spent some time exploring the riverbed of the Hoh River. We drove back to Port Angeles to stay the night at a hotel, where we could get toasty warm and dry.
The next morning we hit up Blackbird Coffee for some delicious Autumn lattes and drove out to Lake Ozette to walk on the extremely cool boardwalk trail out to the Pacific Coast. It was pretty spectacular nature viewing.
Due to high tide (and scary sand bugs) we weren't able to spend a lot of time on the beach, but it was a good place to stop. Did I mention it was a six mile hike? Yeah... us city girls don't do stuff like that too often. I was super proud of myself for accomplishing a good pace and you know, not dying.

The weather cleared up a bit on the drive back and we stopped for a bit at the beautiful Lake Crescent. A bit of curry warmed us up, and then we took a walk on the pier at Port Angeles... where I saw the most ridiculous and amazing moonset ever. No really. It was like Hollywood special effects awesome.
The next day we checked out of the hotel, grabbed some coffee and headed out of town. The day was very pretty, so we headed up to Hurricane Ridge, to brave the twisty roads and high altitudes. It was totally worth it.
We had a picnic and played wildlife bingo. (It ended in a draw). We did a bit of hiking and then drove (and ferry'd) back home. Dinner with G's folks was a nice homecoming surprise.

I took many more photos than these on the trip, of course, but I had to narrow it down to these favorites so it would fit in my LSNED book. :)

I am going to scrap the whole trip using OA Campfire, which won't hit stores for a bit. That's just fine with me, because I still have a bit of catching up to do on other projects.

If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend the Olympic Peninsula as a great place to see real Northwest Nature goodness up close and personal.
