The Sketchbook Project: Part One

I forget where I heard about The Sketchbook Project, but it sounded pretty cool, so I decided to sign up and play along.

The Sketchbook Project: 2011

What is it? Well, I shall borrow liberally from the website.

Basically, you give them money, they send you a sketchbook. You fill it up with Artsy Goodness and send it off into the world. Then, these "[t]housands of sketchbooks will be exhibited at galleries and museums as they make their way on tour across the country.

After the tour, all sketchbooks will enter into the permanent collection of The Brooklyn Art Library, where they will be barcoded and available for the public to view.

Anyone - from anywhere in the world - can be a part of the project."

I know, right? Sooo cool.

I'm excited to get mine in the mail and to play along.

If you want to sign up, you can until October 31. The books must be postmarked for return by Jan 15, 2011. It might be rough, due to the holidays and all, but I'm hoping to get a jump on it by signing up now.

There's just something a little bit magical about art journaling in the summer time.

The other cool thing is that I just found out that they have added a show on the "tour" that is at a gallery right here in town. I'm looking forward to seeing the show, and wonder if I'll see my book there.

That thought is just a little thrilling, to me. ;)

Oh - and also because of your blog post the other day, I joined up for Shimelle's latest class. I've never taken any of her classes before - and I must say, thank you for promoting it! I am already loving it!!

This is awesome! You asked me at the LM closing sale what I was working on, and I've been thinking on that ever since....b/c I haven't really been challenging myself with anything crafty. I don't really count Sunday sketches...anyhow, I've looked at a few longer-term challenges since, but none really caught my attention. THIS one, tho, will be crafty, thought inspiring and FUN. I'm siging up today! THANK YOU!
